Trained at Chelsea College of Art and the Slade School of Art, Leila Barton creates lively contemporary oil paintings ranging from sweeping panoramic landscapes to beautifully lit interiors. This diverse subject matter is drawn together by a highly recognisable style which is characterised by muted backgrounds, a distinctive palette and expressive tonal juxtapositions. Her intriguing landscapes often have an air of mystery to them, leaving us to wonder what lies around the bend, beyond the wall or just over the horizon. In contrast, her exquisite still life florals are intricately executed to render every detail to perfection. Her recent work has included some dazzling excursions into tropical climes where palm trees stretch out towards cerulean skies to stunning and vibrant effect.
She has an ever growing waiting list for commissions. Her work is in private homes here in the UK and abroad in Europe, the US, Canada and Australia.
Explores the way landscapes, flowers and objects change their appearances in different light conditions, seasons and at different times of day, both indoors and out.
“I want to capture the ever-changing look of nature and make it permanent.”
