Marc Chagall

Marc Chagall (1887-1985)

Chagall was born in Vitebsk, a small Russian city built mostly from wood and known for its churches and synagogues. Childhood memories of Vitebsk and its tight-knit community became the driving inspiration for Chagall’s work, along with his love for his wife Bella, his discovery of Paris, flowers (which he professed to never having seen before then), and later, the transformative light of the Côte d'Azur.
