From Pop to Present: Mayfair Art Weekend 2021 with special guest Michael Speller
Clarendon Fine Art Mayfair
26th-27th June 2021
We are delighted to be participating in the annual Mayfair Art weekend, celebrating the resilience and positivity of this special area and its galleries, artists and art lovers. We will be holding a series of events over the weekend, the centrepiece of which is our new exhibition, From Pop to Present. Pop Art was a pivotal movement in art history and changed the relationship between high and low art forever. It was first officially defined in 1957 by Richard Hamilton who called it “Popular, transient, expendable, low-cost, mass-produced, young, witty, sexy, gimmicky, glamorous, and Big Business.” This dynamic exhibition highlights the journey of Pop Art, from its birth in the UK in the late 1940s and its flowering in the USA in the 1960s, to its contemporary legacy, and it offers a direct look at how Pop Art has been kept alive in the 75 years since its conception. Artists included in the exhibition are: Eduardo Paolozzi, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Peter Blake, Patrick Caulfield, Mr Brainwash, Patrick Rubinstein, ,the Connor Brothers, Craig Alan, Alea Pinar du Pre, Auguste, Ilana Gal, BNS, Dan Pearce and Dom Pattinson. The main artist featured will be master of modern sculpture, Michael Speller who will also be joining us on Saturday afternoon in the gallery.
