Respair: the return of hope after a period of despair.

Michael Rumsby began working on this collection in 2020. Exploring a vibrant array of mixed media including oil, pencil, charcoal, pastels and ink, he has built an expressive and vital world of colour, texture.

He comments: “This show is a release. It’s an explosion of years of bottling it all up. Objects appear and disappear. Bottles containing the past line up – desperately trying to hide the reality.  We look through glass to a world close behind yet locked away. We see blossoms so abundant as to lose their identity. Reality and imagination collide at full speed.”

Rumsby’s work hangs in private collections in Europe, The Middle East, The US and Australia and he has undertaken commissions for many prestigious companies. He has been a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) since 2014 and has an on-going residency with BPD (British Polo Day). This extraordinary new collection represents a contemporary artist at the height of his powers.
